CDE Definition of RtI:

A framework that promotes a well-integrated system connecting general, compensatory, gifted, and special education in providing high quality, standards-based instruction and intervention that is matched to students' academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs.

 

RtI Definition reworked:

A plan connecting all students in research-based instruction that is individualized for them.

 

Purpose:

To meet the needs of all learners

 

Beliefs:

  • All students can learn
  • No waiting for students to fail
  • A tiered system of interventions is needed
  • Informed instructional decisions comes from ongoing academic and behavioral performance data
  • Student performance improves with application of data-driven instructional decisions
  • Collaboration among educators, families and community members is the foundational

     

Elements:

  • Organized resources
  • Resources structured into levels of increasing intensity
  • Identified students received individualized support
  • Schools have goals for improving school performance
  • At-risk students are closely monitored
  • Making it meaningful!
